Luck Be a Lady Essay / News

An ancient song I wrote with my friend and Chi-town legend, Hugh Hart, appeared in a documentary on these bike riders who go from S.F. to L.A. to raise money for leukemia.  The riders are called the Fireflies; our song is a really loopy rocker called “Fat Man in His Car,” that I practically forgot about.  Not sure exactly how it fits, because these guys are neither fat nor in cars,  but I saw the video and it does work and kudos to Hugh and the director, Shih-Ting Hung for bringing this to life once more.  I hear it and I remember  recording it in Bruce Barrett’s basement on the north side of Chicago, huddled in the small space with the crack band Hugh put together for the demos we were doing.

In other news, a non-fiction essay of mine called “Luck Be a Lady” was just picked up for Dirty Chai, a fab literary journal.  It was posted here before, but read it again in spiffy fashion in the Spring/Summer 2014 issue (3) at
