This Hard Land
New essay entitled “This Hard Land” up at Ink 19. Thanks to James Mann for giving me the nudge to write this. Tried to weave a bunch of ideas together, to stack mirrors upon mirrors – but really, props go to the Boss for the inspiration. Doug https://ink19.com/2018/07/magazine/features/this-hard-land
Performance Art
Happy to debut a new short story, “Performance Art,” published this month at Trampset (“a literary journal for the tramps”). Managed to work in Tony Hillerman, Modest Mouse, and Marlon Brando. But, the idea was to write something in second-person, ala the brilliant Lorrie Moore. My ex-students may remember that exercise….enjoy! https://trampset.org/performance-art-cf1df457c60a
Ode to the Blue Room
Happy to report on another new poem of mine published – “Ode to the Blue Room” – featured in the latest One Sentence Poems (Right Hand Pointing poetry journal). This piece follow a distinct Nashville vibe but riffs off some other things, as well. And, yes it’s one sentence. Hope you enjoy it, Doug. http://www.onesentencepoems.com/osp/doug-hoekstra-ode-to-the-blue-room/
Monument Valley
Happy to plug a new poem of mine, “Monument Valley,” just published at the very fine Big Windows Review (the literary magazine of the Writing Center at WCC, in Ann Arbor, Michigan). Check it out at: https://thebigwindowsreview.wordpress.com/2018/06/19/doug-hoekstra-monument-valley/ And for the bonus experience, I’ve included a couple of my photies right here. Enjoy.
