Simplicity – High School

Showing Jude some of my ancient writings, I found a portfolio from High School English, poems and stories neatly typed for the teacher’s consideration.  “Simplicity” is from that folder.   I stole the first line from a Nick Lowe song.  Overall, I see a kid trying so hard to be earnest.  But, that’s how it was.

Simplicity

I love the sound of breaking glass,
especially when I’m lonely
people who understand,
those who are distinctive

A radio playing softly at night, barely audible
A gentle breeze blowing through an open porch
A single smile in a sea of strangers,
The beginning of the late show
The middle of the dawn
Any thought that comes my way
Much too simple to explain
