Saturday, April 6 (past but archived).   Listen to Doug on Writer’s Voices, KHOE, KICI-LP, at 11:15 am CT.   Some conversation and three selections from Unopened.  You can relive the magic here. There are some nice quotes on the site, Doug pontificating that “art does that, it forces you to unopen your life and thoughts…if you write with direction and a narrative that’s great; but you have to be sure it’s not just you, but it’s the spaces…that people can get into them. It’s what makes it worth doing really.” 

Tuesday, May 7.   (past but archived).  Doug read from Unopened  as part of Chuck Beard’s East Side Storytellin’ segment number 152 at The Post in East Nashville, also featuring the talented James Rotondi.  Doug read six selections from the book, pondered life, and afterwards shared an interview spot with Mr. Rotondi.  Do not fear relive the magic right here.

Saturday, May 11.  Doug picked up his guitar and boogied on down to Douglas Corner to do a short set in support of the estimable Dana Cooper.   Longtime pal and major talent, Pat “Skratch” Meusel accompanied Doug on baritone guitar.

Friday, May 31 (archived) Doug read from “Unopened” as part of the fabulous Lyrical Brew in-the-round series, hosted by the even more fabulous Ciona Rouse. Doug was joined by Prince Bush and Blair McMillan. Lyrical Brew is located at Barnes and Noble Vanderbilt,  Nashville.  A bit of it archived here.

Wednesday, June 19  – Live on the Air Appearance at WXNA What Moves You, in Nashville (101.5 FM), singing a couple, reading some poems, chatting with DJ Celia.   Groovy potential, y’all. 

Thursday, July 18.  Doug read at a brand-new series in Old Hickory at Nyumbarista. , with Ben Reese hosting; opening acts, and then Hoekstra opening up “Unopened.” Nyumbarista is located at 1053 Donelson Avenue in Old Hickory Village, Old Hickory.

Friday, August 30 (to be archived)- Doug visited the Knoxville Visitor’s Center, this time as part of WDVX and Wordstream, with host Linda Parsons, an hour of performance split between reading from “Unopened” and playing some old and new tunes.   Copies of “Unopened” are available at Union Avenue Books and a podcast of this gig will be posted.

Thursday, September 26 – Doug read at Native Magazines Lit Party, at Analog, inside the Hutton Hotel,  Nashville (photo to the right).  7 to 10 with a bevy of fine folks (Be Witched, Southern Word, Regenerates, Nashville Poetry Library, the Porch, Blair McMillian and more).

Thursday, October 3 – Doug read from “Unopened” and more as part of the Nashville Canon Review at Anaconda Vintage in East Nashville,  with Max Putnam,  Meg Wade, Trey Adams

Saturday, October 5 – Doug Hoekstra, the Guitar slinger, split a really happening in the round at Douglas Corner Café in Nashville, 6-8,  with Tom House and Dave Isaacs. An iconic venue. Dave has a new book out, btw “The Perpetual Beginner.” Check it out.

Friday, October 11 – Southern Festival of Books panel, Doug Hoekstra and David Olney. “Bards of Nashville.” Conversation, dialogue, readings, and a signing, it went fab – Nashville Public Library Conference Room 3, at 1 p.m.  RIP Mr. Olney, it was good to hang out with you one more time.  See you on the flip side.

Tuesday, November 26 –  Great time at Cole Slivka’s Short Sets, rebooted at Great Escape, Nashville. Guest backing from the very talented Paul Slivka (bass) and Dave Coleman (guitar),  new tunes and an impromptu poetry/music piece of “In the Direction of the Slide”.  Cole hosted and kicked things off with her set at 6:30. Stephen Simmons and Madeline Besson also on the bill.
